Feeding toddlers may be very difficult. Toddlers are just beginning to experience a sense of self and start forming likes and dislikes, so they can be very picky. Offer a variety of foods at once. Offer a little bit of dip to add new flavor and some fun. Start with ketchup or ranch dressing. If your toddler prefers drinking to eating, try making a smoothie out of some fruits, milk, and ice. Keep portions small - if the child wants more, she’ll let you know. If your toddler would rather eat pizza in the morning and cereal at night, let him! It is better then having him not eat at all. Offer food in a happy, fun environment. Do not give up on introducing new foods. It may take 8 – 15 tries before a child takes to a particular food. Your baby should be weaned from a bottle to a sippy cup by one year of age, but its ok to try a sippy cup starting at six months. Most babies will not take a sippy cup that early. If your baby cries or refuses to drink from a sippy cup, switch back to the bottle and try again later. Start with a sippy cup that has a soft nipple and thin handles for baby to hold. |
